How it works
Measure the area the resin will actually cover or fill. Use the same selected unit for length, width, and thickness. For a river table, measure the resin-filled channel or cavity rather than the entire tabletop; irregular shapes may need separate sections.
The calculator converts that volume to US gallons, liters, and US fluid ounces. It then divides the recommended amount by your selected mix ratio, if one is provided.
Table Top Thickness Guide
A seal coat is a thin initial layer used to help close a porous surface; 1/16 inch is a planning example. A flood coat is a thicker self-leveling surface layer; 1/8 inch is a common example. A thicker coating might be planned at 1/4 inch. Deep pours and river channels need a custom measured depth.
These figures are estimating examples, not product limits. Follow your epoxy manufacturer's instructions for coat thickness, maximum single-pour depth, and mixing.
Frequently asked questions
How much epoxy do I need for a table top?
Multiply the resin-covered length by width and planned thickness, then add a waste allowance. Enter those dimensions above to see the amount in US gallons, liters, and fluid ounces.
How thick should table top epoxy be?
Choose the thickness your product specifies for the coat or pour you plan to make. The guide above gives planning examples, but your manufacturer's instructions determine the usable thickness.
What is the difference between a seal coat and a flood coat?
A seal coat is a thin first layer that helps limit air release from a porous surface. A flood coat adds the visible, self-leveling surface layer. Check whether your product calls for both.
Can I use this calculator for a countertop?
Yes, for a flat rectangular surface with a known coating thickness. Measure additional edges, cutouts, or separate sections individually if they need resin, then account for practical losses in the waste allowance.
Should I add extra epoxy for waste?
Usually. Material left in mixing containers, surface absorption, and uneven application can increase the amount needed. Choose a waste percentage that fits your project.
How do I calculate epoxy by mix ratio?
Select the volume ratio from your product instructions. The calculator divides the recommended mixed amount into Resin A and Hardener B; a ratio specified by weight needs a different calculation.
